Life is filled with so many activities and responsibilities that sometimes it can be hard to spend quality time with the people we love. At the end of last year, Travis & I sat down to plan our couple goals for 2018. Towards the end of 2017, the majority of our "dates" were spent watching Netflix or a movie on TV. We decided that we want to watch less TV and spend more quality time trying new activities, food, and getting out of our comfort zones. So, we decided to start planning surprise dates each month.
How do surprise dates work?
Each month, Travis & I go on two dates (we can go on more, but we make it a priority to go on at least two). One date, Travis & I plan together. The other date is a surprise! Travis & I divided up the months and we plan a surprise for the other person. It is a fun way to spend quality time together. Now, if you've been following this blog for a long time, you'll know that we aren't the best at keeping surprises. We originally planned it so that we don't tell the other person what we are doing until it gets to be that day (or the day before). The last surprise date that I planned for Travis, I told him about it a week before!
What are Examples of Surprise dates?
They can be anything you want! I like planning an entire afternoon or evening of activities for Travis & I to do. In December, Travis surprised me with tickets for us to go see the movie Coco. It was something I had told him I wanted to see and we really enjoyed the movie. In January, we went out to lunch in Montclair, visited the Montclair Art Museum, and headed to the best place in NJ to get chocolate chip cookies, the Corner. In February, Travis & I did a Barnes & Noble scavenger hunt. Last month, we went out to eat at a farm-to-table pizza place called Dough and did an Escape Room. Travis is planning our April surprise date right now and I have no idea what to expect!
There's no right way to do a surprise date. Just be creative and try to think of some fun things that you and your boyfriend can do together.
