I think that it is so easy in periods of change to look back at what you once had. Nostalgia makes things seem better than they actually were. While you are sitting at work or in college, you might be thinking back to past times with rose-covered glasses. It's too easy to live in the past and do things the same way you've always been doing them. I think the biggest mistake that I've made in the past few weeks is not appreciating what I have in the moment.
I want to challenge myself to think differently, appreciate the wonderful people in my life now, and be excited for what every day will bring. I need to realize that with each change, there is a learning curve. I shouldn't expect myself to have the post-grad thing down by now. I think that we all need to be a bit gentler with ourselves. We shouldn't expect our lives to be perfect. Life is a lot more interesting when you take detours and learn something new. I think that as long as you have great people in your life, it's not the road traveled that makes life fun, it's the people in the car with you.
If you are struggling with change in your life, just remember that at one point the situation you were once so comfortable with was a huge change. I believe that everything works out in the end. It's important to not take yourself so seriously and enjoy the moment. Who knows, maybe one day you'll look back at the current moment and wish you could go back. So make the most of every day, laugh, live, love.
