25 Things I Learned Before 25
Here I am sitting in my childhood bedroom two days before my 25th birthday writing this post. Wow. There is something about this birthday that feels different, probably because I have always put a lot of weight on this number and wondered what my life would look like at this point. Maybe it is because it’s the age my parents were when they had me (which I still can’t believe!) or the fact that it is halfway to 30? It is almost like a metaphorical bridge from childhood to adulthood.
Now that I have been out of college for three years, even though it feels like it has been longer, and am starting to get settled into my career, I look around at my life and see myself really #adulting. I’ll catch myself in moments where my inner 5 year-old gets really excited over getting extra sprinkles on my ice cream or my inner 15 year-old is giddy over being in love, and am happy that I haven’t lost being a kid at heart.
There’s a lot I have learned along the way that has really shaped me into who I am today, so I thought it would be fun to recap 25 lessons I’ve learned before turning 25.
Be yourself unapologetically.
Good things come from getting out of your comfort zone.
You are in control of who you surround yourself with, choose wisely.
Taking time for yourself is essential, don’t feel guilty for doing it!
You are never stuck in a situation and have the power to change.
Count to five in your head before saying something you’ll regret.
Dance like no one is watching.
There doesn’t need to be a plan for every aspect in your life, the unknown can be exciting.
Say hello to strangers because you never know what struggles someone is dealing with.
It is okay to change your mind…and change it again.
Embrace and be grateful for tough moments because they only make you stronger.
Make time for people you love because you never know how much time you have with them.
Set and communicate your boundaries.
Being busy doesn’t equal success.
Salad is actually pretty good..so are vegetables..incorporate them into your diet.
Age is just a number.
Finding the right workout will make you love exercising.
The only thing you can actually control is your reaction to situations, you can’t control the situation itself.
Love yourself and be proud of every moment you’ve gone through.
You’ll find someone when you least expect it.
Appreciate the little moments when it feels as though nothing is changing because it’s setting you up for something big.
Don’t let a bad few minutes ruin the entire day.
Stop worrying so much, whatever is meant to be will be, all you can do is breathe and enjoy life.
Life life on your own timeline.
